Base oils

Base oils What is a base oil?

Natural base oils are extracted by pressing the most fat-saturated parts of the plant, such as nuts, seeds and fruits. Cold pressing is the best method of extracting vegetable oils because it retains vitamins and active ingredients.

The structure of base oils is very close to the structure of human adipose tissue, which is why they very easily and quickly penetrate into the skin. Their consistency depends on whether they contain saturated or unsaturated fats. Some oils are in solid state because they contain saturated fats, such as coconut and cocoa butter. And argan, almond and rosehip oils are liquid because they contain unsaturated fats.

The shelf life of base oils is very short because they contain fats and that is why they oxidize and spoil faster than essential oils. To preserve the base oil for a longer time, it is good to add vitamin E, which acts as a natural preservative. It is also necessary to add it to home-made mixtures and cosmetics.

Base oils can be used directly on the skin, they nourish, hydrate and support regeneration. Rosehip oil is one of the most commonly used base oils in skin care, it is extremely rich in vitamins E, A and C.

Base oils are most often used as a base for various cosmetic products, as well as for diluting essential oils.
