Apricot Kernel – a little history
Apricot (Prunus armeniaca) is a tall, fruit tree that belongs to the Rosaceae family. The word "apricot" comes from the Latin word "praecoquum", meaning "ripe early", because the apricot tree blooms in early spring. The ancient Persians called apricots "sun eggs," and the Greeks called them "golden apples" and "golden eggs of the sun." Most researchers assume that the homeland of the apricot is Northern China. Others believe that it originated in Armenia, where apricot pits have been found dating back to very ancient times. Supporting the Armenia theory is the fact that the Latin name "Prunus armeniaca" literally means "Armenian plum". The first mentions of apricot kernel oil date back to 3000 BC. In traditional Chinese medicine, apricots are recommended for the treatment of tumors, ulcers, anemia, and the kernels have a soothing effect on coughs. The first appearance of the word in the English language is in the treatise "New Herbal" published in 1551 by William Turner. The father of English botany describes the apricot as "smaller than other peaches" and mentions the apricot tree. Shakespeare also knew apricots. In Richard II, the Queen's gardener speaks of apricot trees heavy with apricots. In A Midsummer Night's Dream, apricots are described as a luxury fruit along with blackberries. In the language of the Hunza tribe, the name of apricot kernel oil is "hani-e-dell", which literally means "sun drops". Researchers prove that the year-round consumption of fresh and dried apricots in large quantities is the reason for the good health and high percentage of centenarians among the Hunza tribe inhabiting the highlands of Pakistan. What makes apricots so valuable is the content of the glycoside amygdalin (which causes the bitter taste of apricots), which the chemist Ernst Krebs called vitamin B17, although it is not actually a vitamin. It has been scientifically proven that this particular vitamin, which includes a cyanide compound, helps immensely in the fight against cancer.

Hydrates The Skin
Apricot oil is an excellent emollient, making it an amazing, comprehensive and natural moisturizer suitable for all skin types, including sensitive. It is characterized by a soft and gentle consistency, absorbs instantly without leaving an oily film on the surface of the skin, which is why it fits perfectly into natural home cosmetics. It's light enough to use alone, almost all over the body, or it can be mixed with a moisturizer or lotion for extra nourishment.
Increases the elasticity of mature skin
Apricot oil is a rich source of essential fatty acids, thanks to which it improves the tone and increases the elasticity of the skin. It is believed to aid in the formation of collagen, which in turn leads to firmer and softer skin with a fresher, more youthful appearance. Vitamins C and E working in sync promote the skin's natural glow and increase the skin's ability to retain its elasticity.
It has an anti-aging effect
Apricot kernel oil has a natural anti-wrinkle effect and helps keep the skin youthful and firm. It is a true ally of the skin, not only because it supports the formation of collagen and hydrates the skin, but also because it contains natural wax that acts like a filter. The essential fatty acids and retinoids in the oil are involved in the regeneration of the skin and prevent its dehydration. With regular application and daily care, the oil favors the most delicate area of the face - the eye contour by helping to reduce fine mimic wrinkles, reduce puffiness and reduce dark circles. The combination of apricot kernel oil, vitamin E and grape seed oil also provides a comprehensive antioxidant mix that prevents premature skin aging.
Strengthens the skin's natural barrier
Apricot oil strengthens the skin's own protective barrier. This, on the one hand, is essential for retaining moisture in the skin, and on the other hand, serves to protect against the harmful effects of the environment. Rich in trace elements, vitamins and antioxidants, vegetable oil also acts as a protective shield against free radicals. Aggressive oxygen molecules caused by UV radiation, cigarette smoke and many other factors can significantly damage cells and attack the collagen structure of the skin. Therefore, they can cause rapid aging of the skin and deprive it of its shine, tone and elasticity. Apricot kernel oil counteracts precisely this negative effect.
Reduces the appearance of pigment spots
The valuable apricot kernel oil also counteracts sun damage such as age spots. This is due to the linoleic acid contained in it, which regulates the synthesis of the pigment melanin, which, when produced in excess, causes dark spots on the skin.
Lip care
The skin on the lips is very thin and has no sebaceous glands, which means it cannot produce protective lipids. Because of this, lips tend to dry out quickly. Apricot kernel oil provides delicate skin with rich care and supports the regeneration of stressed lips. The oil can be used both neat and as an active ingredient in lip balm sticks.
It has benefits for hair and scalp
Apricot kernel oil is not only great for skin care, but it also has hair benefits. The antioxidants it contains protect damaged hair and its roots from the harmful effects of the environment and free radicals. This prevents hair loss and flat roots. And fatty acids are a valuable moisture booster for dry lengths and split ends. Apricot oil hair care gives new shine and intensively nourishes the hair. When the oil is massaged into the scalp, it prevents dry patches, itching and irritation and nourishes the hair follicles with vitamins.
Apricot kernel oil can be used throughout your skin care routine and is suitable for all skin types.
- For Facial Cleansing – Cleansing with apricot kernel oil frees the skin of debris and pollutants that may have stuck to it during the day or night and prepares it to absorb the nourishing ingredients of skincare products.
- As a moisturizing oil – You can apply it directly to the skin as a moisturizer, providing 24-hour hydration and protection from external factors. Apply a few drops of the oil to dry and well-cleansed skin with light massaging movements until the oil is completely absorbed. It can be used alone, to add to cosmetic masks and products or as a base for dissolving essential oils. If you use it as a moisturizer, you don't need to rinse it off.
- For hair – Apply a few drops to your scalp and massage gently, then cover your hair with a shower cap and leave the product on for 15 minutes before washing your hair. It can also be applied to the ends of the hair to reduce or prevent flowering and breakage.
- As a make-up remover – Apply a few drops of apricot kernel oil to a cotton pad and gently wipe the make-up off your face. Continue with your usual cleansing and facial care routine.
