Frankincense yields an oleo gum resin that is obtained by making incisions into the bark. The essential oil is then produced from the resins through steam distillation.
The English word frankincense comes from the Old French expression franc encens, which was used to denote 'high-quality incense'. The word ,,franc’’ in Old French stands for 'noble and pure'.
