Thyme - a little history

At least 350 varieties of thyme are known in nature, but only three of them find a place in the kitchen - common (lat. Thymus vulgaris), lemon and caraway. The herb, also known as oregano, is native to the sunny hills of the Mediterranean. The name "thyme" (thyme) comes from the ancient Greek word "θυμιαω" (thymos), meaning "smoke". Many legends are associated with thyme. The first evidence of the use of the herb dates back to about 5000 years ago, when the Sumerians began to use it as an anti-inflammatory means. In Ancient Greece, the fragrant herb was used as incense in their ritual sacrifices, to appease the gods and purify the air. A beautiful legend tells how the tears of the beautiful Elena turned into fragrant thyme. The ancient Greeks massaged their bodies with fragrant oils extracted from thyme and threw sprigs of the herb into the fire, and the scents of the smoke reached the gods. The hills of Greece were covered with the fragrant plant, which gradually became a symbol of courage and bravery. The Romans also associated thyme with bravery and strength, and before battles warriors would bathe in water scented with the herb because they believed it would bring them victory. In the Middle Ages, women sewed dried thyme into the lining of warriors' clothing. It was believed that this gave them extra courage and courage during battles. There was another ritual where ladies embroidered the plant on the tunics of their favorite knights as a symbol of courage.

The widespread use of thyme continued throughout the centuries. When the black plague struck humanity in the 16th century, millions of people used thyme for treatment and protection. Its disinfecting properties were used during epidemics of leprosy, cholera and plague, with the herb being thrown into fires. During the First World War, thyme oil was used in hospitals to heal wounds and disinfect instruments. In the years before the invention of the refrigerator, the herb's use in cooking recipes provided protection against meat spoilage and food poisoning.

Ich bestelle immer bei Doterra meine Öle. Das ist das beste was es gibt. Ich kannte diese bulgarische Firma nicht. Dieses Öl ist genau so gut wie Doterra und günstiger. Ich werde da weiter probieren. Tolles Produkt! Ich kann das weiter empfehlen!

It really smells like thyme oil. I think it’s just a little pricey for such a tiny bottle.

This oil when used in the diffuser is subtle and clean. Outdoorsy. Not overpowering. Will keep a supply in case COVID visits my household as it is supposed to help with spasmodic coughing.I originally bought it to use with a carrier oil (I used coconut oil) to clear a skin condition. I will keep this around forever as it worked.

Smells how it should and seems to be great quality! Diluted like it should with a carrier oil! I would buy again!
