Why is it important to think about the future of our children?

Veliko Angelov is the co-founder of Essences Bulgaria and Walnuts Bulgaria and is a vivid example of why one should remember their roots while simultaneously looking positively toward the future.

Veliko, what is especially important to you in life?

On one hand, the goal of my life is to leave my children and their generation a planet worth living on, where their children will also be able to build upon the important achievements of our time.

What do achievements mean to you?

In our time, true achievements are not related to material things, but rather to real cultural and ecological values. In this context, it is extremely important not to forget our roots and where we come from. Once we study our roots, we clearly understand that it is crucial to support each other whenever possible. And this is important for society as a whole, not just for the immediate family circle.

What does “supporting each other” mean to you?

We, Bulgarians, are used to keeping important knowledge and accumulated experience to ourselves and forget about society, but if we share our knowledge and experience, then many people can benefit from it, and in the end, we also gain, because the whole society benefits from the acquisition of knowledge.

How do you apply this in your companies Essences Bulgaria and Walnuts Bulgaria?

In our family philosophy, embedded in Essences Bulgaria, “help” and “healing” play an exceptional role. As I mentioned, the goal is to help each other and to offer completely natural products for healing and health. Which oils are suitable for which ailments. We are especially pleased to receive feedback from our clients, to learn from them, and to pass on our knowledge.

What is the role of agriculture in your philosophy?

Here the circle can be perfectly closed, because it is important to remember our roots not only from a cultural perspective but also from a purely practical one. All of us live off the soil, and our soil in Bulgaria is among the most fertile in the world. And we, the farmers, are obliged to preserve the soil for future generations.

Can you be more specific?

Conventional agriculture does not think about future generations, and in Bulgaria, millions of tons of topsoil have been lost forever due to erosion caused by improper agricultural practices. However, if one thinks long-term, the soil can be improved through appropriate practices. Walnut orchards, for example, are an excellent way to care for and preserve the soil, while simultaneously achieving significantly higher economic yields compared to conventional agriculture.

So you are saying that more ecological farming can also achieve better yields?

Yes, of course, provided attention is paid to the natural life cycle. I will give you an example: when I sow alfalfa between the rows of walnut saplings, I simultaneously enrich the soil, prevent erosion, and at the same time provide the walnut tree with sufficient nitrogen, which in turn increases the yield.

Thank you to Veliko Angelov for this wonderful insight. Perhaps your ideas will inspire many others to more carefully seek new alternatives.

I also sincerely thank you, and I am convinced that we can indeed look positively toward the future because these ideas did not simply fall from the sky, and more and more people are becoming role models from whom we can draw strength and courage.

I wish everyone a Merry Christmas!
