Instead of reaching for synthetic repellents, nature offers us gentle and effective alternatives. Here are three simple DIY recipes with essential oils to help you stay protected the natural way:
1. Natural Body Spray Repellent
Ingredients:
50 ml Lavender or Helichrysum floral water
10 drops Lemongrass essential oil
10 drops Eucalyptus essential oil
5 drops Lavender essential oil
1 tsp vegetable glycerin or carrier oil (optional)
How to use:
Shake well and spray on skin and clothing before going outdoors. Safe for children over 3 years.
2. Soothing Roll-On for Bug Bites
Ingredients:
10 ml St. John’s Wort or rosehip oil
2 drops Tea tree essential oil
2 drops Lavender essential oil
1 drop Helichrysum essential oil (optional)
How to use:
Apply directly to the bite. It relieves itching and reduces inflammation.
3. Aromatic Room Spray
Ingredients:
100 ml water
20 drops peppermint essential oil
15 drops clove essential oil
10 drops Rosemary essential oil
1 tsp vodka or alcohol (as a preservative)
How to use:
Spray around windows, curtains, and corners of the room. It refreshes the air and keeps bugs away.
Tip:
Mosquitoes dislike citrus, eucalyptus, and peppermint scents – diffuse these oils at home for extra protection.
